Hiking to the Geghama Mountains

 

The highest peak of Geghama Mountains chain, having volcanic origins and extending to the
west of Lake Sevan, is Mets Azhdahak Mountain (3598 m). It is followed by Spitakasar (3555
m), Geghasar (3443 m), Aknasar (3258 m) and Sevkatar (3225 m). A number of rivers and
lakes originate from this peak: rivers Azat, Vedi, Getar and lakes Aknalich, Vanki Lich,
Vishapalich are the most famous.
The tour program includes:
Day one: Meeting at the airport. Excursion to Yerevan sights: the complex of "Cascade",
Matenadaran, the National Gallery of Armenia, the Mergelyan Karpet factory.
Day two: Charents arch-Artis village-Vishapalich- vishap stones (vishapakarer)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Kotayk region, starting from the medieval monastery
complex of Geghard, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage. After visiting Geghard, there
will be a trip to the village of Artis and then - Vishapalich Lake. Overnight in tents.
Day three: Vishapalich- Azhdahak Mountain-meteorite crater-Aknalich
Breakfast in the splendid nature, then hike to the highest peak of the Geghama mountain range
- the mythical mountain Azhdahak (3597 m). It is one of the extinct volcanoes on the territory of
Armenia, on top of which a volcanic lake has been formed. Then we will visit one of the most
picturesque parts of the ridge - the volcanic lake Aknalich.
Day four: Aknalich - mountain settlement- Tsaghkashen village -Lake Sevan
On the fourth day of the trip departure from the territory of Lake Aknalich to Lake Sevan,
walking along the mountain path to the village of Tsaghkashen, from where we will depart to
Lake Sevan on cars. Overnight in one of the high-class hotels of Sevan.
Day five: Return to Yerevan. Farewell dinner at one of the famous restaurant complexes in
Yerevan, accompanied by live music.
